Double Page Spread Sketch
Today I made a draft of my double page spread. I would like to have the model in the middle of the page with writing spaced around him/ her. However Im aware that having the model in the middle of might disturb the picture, as there is a break in between pages so it may cut the picture off, although that could be adjusted by moving the picture more the the edge of the page.

Music Magazine Cover Sketch
Todays lesson was spent sketching the cover of my music magazine. The colour scheme is still undecided, however the the font and camera shot will be similar. I would like to give the cover light colours, like so, to make sure the colours arent too harsh but can also stand out.

Magazine Evaluation: Cover Page
What did you try to achieve?
My aim was to
duplicate the professional look of a college magazine using techniques and
different software to create an eye-catching magazine for readers. Using
Photoshop, I created the front cover, and managed to include the properties of
an original college magazine.
What went well?
I think the
layout and the organisation of my magazine was displayed nicely, and also the
colour scheme, (black, white and brown), came together nicely, because they’re
simple colours and not too bright, however stand out and suit the context of
the magazine and additionally they blended nicely with what the model on the
cover was wearing. I also managed to include a range of sub headings which were
suitable for the reader, and the targeted audience for the magazine; college
students. Using exclamation marks at the end of each sub headings creates a
sense of excitement, hopefully making the reader more intrigued. I added a baseline
at the bottom, and a prize winning advertisement at the top. The purpose of
putting the prize near the centre of the page was to attract the reader, as you
tend to look at the centre. The picture of the iPad also clashed with the
original colour scheme, which makes it stand out. Moreover, my masthead was written using a big
bold font, making it clear to the target audience what the magazine will
include. I used a picture of a student smiling, just to make the magazine look
exciting for students to read, which would encourage people to purchase it.
What do others think?
Having had it
peer assessed, other people commented how they liked the use of my colour
scheme, and how it’s not too bright, and even though dull colour were chosen,
the layout makes it seem professional and organised.
What could be improved?
Although the
colour scheme was much organised, the black headings and the colour of the sofa
in the background were very similar, therefore causing the text to blend with
the background making it difficult to read. Additionally, the picture used
could have been planned and organised more with the colour scheme, as the model
could have worn black or white, however it still works well.
3 targets would be:
1.
Have
the colour scheme planned properly, and use brighter colours
2.
To
give the magazine a realistic look, add a price
3.
Make
sure the titles do not blend into the background
